Who we are
Finish the Race is a cost-free athlete development program committed to building the whole person. We go beyond physical training by investing in the mental and emotional growth of student-athletes through academic assistance, consistent mentorship, and hands on guidance. Alongside training, we support athletes through the college preparation process, helping them navigate exposure opportunities and college visits with confidence and purpose.
Finish the Race is a program of Frontlines Detroit, a nonprofit organization dedicated to using sports as a platform for life-changing mentorship and travel experiences for students across the city of Detroit.
FTR was started by Coach Terry Sanders as a way to give back to athletes that grew up like him. Coach Terry grew up on the west side of Detroit and later played football at Wayne State University. Coach Terry now works as a full-time trainer and coach alongside Frontlines Detroit Founder and FTR coach and mentor, Coach Nick Ribbing.
Coach Nick and Coach Terry are deeply committed to developing athletes as whole people, not just players. With a passion for growth on and off the field, they invest in athletes physically through strength and speed training, mentally through tutoring, discipline, and confidence, and spiritually through purpose and identity. Their leadership is rooted in service, mentorship, and a genuine desire to help young athletes grow into strong competitors and even stronger individuals.
